The Medical PSS is a complete interactive table top 3D visualization and 3D interaction system for the analysis of medical images.

The Medical PSS enables a physician to interact intuitively with 3D and 4D (3D + time) medical images. This allows for a faster and better interpretation of the images and as a result improved medical care at lower cost.

Medical analysis tools are ill equipped for 3D medical data
The exponential growth of 3D and 4D information in Medicine drives the need for fast and efficient analysis tools. However traditional interfaces, like 2D screens, keyboard and mouse are problematic and have severe limitations for this kind of analysis.

The PSS explained
The Personal Space Station (PSS) is a complete desktop virtual reality system for easy and intuitive analysis of 3D and 4D (3D + time) data.
The user looks at the screen via a mirror. This enables the user to bring his hands into the same environment as the virtual 3D-objects without interrupting the visual image. The user is invited to grab, hold and interact with the data. To facilitate interaction highly accurate wireless optical tracking is used. Interaction controllers are used to position an object in 3D with six degrees of freedom.

 

 

Analysis software
The Medical-PSS is equipped with dedicated software tailored to the analysis of 3D and 4D medical data.

3D Interaction – 6DOF optical motion tracking

The Medical PSS is equipped with a sub mm accurate and fast six degrees of freedom optical tracking system.

The system is based on infrared lighting, reducing interference of visible light sources from the environment. This allows the PSS to be used under normal office working conditions, without requiring controlled lighting. Objects can be tracked by applying retro-reflective markers.
